Ska-punk band The Mighty Mighty Bosstones are hitting the club circuit in support of its newest release, Pay Attention. Tracks off of its sixth studio album, So Sad To Say and She Just Happened are earning radio play on modern rock stations.
Pay Attention follows the Bosstone's 1999 release Live From the Middle East and its 1997 Let's Face It album, which sold 1.7 million copies.
The band originated in 1985 with Boston natives Dicky Barrett on vocals, Nate Albert on guitar, Tim Bridewell and, Tim "Johnny Vegas" Burton on sax and Ben Carr as the "Bosstone" (descriptive word given for his dancing around on stage with the band).
Since then Mr. Bridewell left and was replaced by saxophonist Kevin Lenear and drummer Joe Sirois. A trombonist, Dennis Brockenborough was also added to the lineup after Devil's Night Out was released on Taang!, an independent Boston label.
The Bosstones toured more than 300 shows a year to build its current fan base.
In 1993 the band left Taang! Records and signed with Mercury Records.
The Bosstones are cited in Rolling Stone as "the first American ska band ever to sign with a major label."
